Contact lenses for special eye problems

Some people have special eye problems and are not suitable to wear contacts. They require particular fitting by ECPs. Some ECPs specialize in these hard-to-fit patients. They provide more expertise and advanced equipments for contacts fitting.
RGPs are the right solution for Keratoconus since they are made of non-bendable materials. RGP contacts replace the irregular surface of a Keratoconic cornea. If the Keratoconus eyes are not suitable for direct RGPs, "piggybacking" is used. RGPs are covered over soft lenses so that they will be more comfortable. Keratoconus eyes may also use exclusively designed hybrid contacts, which combine a GP center and a soft ring around it. Another option of contacts for Keratoconus relates to the white sclera of the eye. These large diameter sclera GP lenses provide the irregular Keratoconus eye surface with a more stable and comfortable fitting.

Astigmatism eyes are also difficult to fit than common myopia or hyperopia eyes, since the eye cornea is not perfectly round. The current solution to astigmatism eyes are toric contacts, which should never rotate while blinking. They are provided in soft type, RGPs as well as customized style for high prescription. Hybrid contacts are another possible option for astigmatism.

Chronic dry eye is a common eye problem which is estimated to affect 20% of the Americans so that they may feel not so good with contacts. This eye problem has some usual symptoms, such as frequent tearing, red eyes, watery tears and feeling objects in the eyes. Since dry eyes affect the fitting of contacts, some doctors may treat these eyes using various methods. For example, using artificial tears and medicated eye drops can help people generate more tears and improve eye nutrition. Opticians may also insert punctal plugs into your eyelids' inner margin, so as to hold most of your tears, which only costs several minutes and is painless. All these treatments aim to keep more tears on eyes. For people with dry eyes, traditional soft contacts are not the right solution since they absorb tears. New designed soft contacts do better in keeping moisture in the eyes. RGPs provide a better way to fit dry eyes, because they never "consume" moisture in the eyes.

A common inflammatory problem named Giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC) also cause difficult contacts fitting. The protein excretions in tears bring a filmy coating on contacts, which affect comfort and good vision. Eye drops may help in reducing the possibility of GPC. Contact lenses should keep away from these proteins. A simplest way is to wearing soft daily disposable contacts, which will never be bothered by protein deposits. Another choice is GP contacts, which are more resistant to proteins deposits than soft lenses. Common soft lenses retain proteins easily even with frequent cleaning.

Since LASIK does not always resume a perfect vision, especially treating high prescriptions, contact lenses are still helpful after LASIK. This condition requires more consideration and trials for contacts fitting. Soft contacts, special RGPs and hybrid lenses are effective to provide a better vision after LASIK for high degree astigmatism. RGPs and hybrid contacts can help solve LASIK complications and excessive glare, as well as providing sharper night vision.

Presbyopia eyes are also hard to go with contact lenses. Opticians always use bifocal contacts and monovision lenses with precise fitting to correct this eye problem. The fitting process is time-consuming so that these lenses are more expensive. In fact, they deserve the high price.

Actually, most of the contacts dealing with hard-to-fit eye problems require more time and money. Eye practitioners must acquire more expertise to be competent.

Types of Laser Vision Correction

What most people might not realize is that there are several different types of laser vision corrective surgery. While most of the types of Lasik and other laser vision correction surgeries are similar, there are some slight differences that are important to note.
The first type of laser vision correction is PRK, or photorefractive keratectomy. PRK was the first type of laser vision correction, invented in the early 1980s. PRK works much the same way as Lasik, but improvement and recovery may take longer than Lasik. More discomfort may be experienced with PRK as, with this procedure, deeper layers of the cornea are exposed.

There is one major difference between Lasik and PRK. With Lasik, a flap is made at the front of the eye using a microkeratome that is put back in its place after the laser vision correction is finished. With PRK, the laser completely removes this outer layer of the cornea.

One of the other types of laser vision correction goes by a few different names. Custom Lasik, wavefront Lasik, and wavefront-guided Lasik are all the same method of taking Lasik technology a step further. With custom Lasik, a 3-D map is created showing how well an eye processes images and is used to guide the laser to repair any irregularities. This type of laser vision correction is said to produce an outcome of better vision with fewer risks than traditional Lasik.

Epi-Lasik is a type of laser vision correction that is just slightly different that traditional Lasik. Instead of using the thin blade of the microkeratome to create the flap at the front of the eye, a blunt plastic tool called an epithelial separator is used. The epithelial separator is used to displace the flap instead of using alcohol, which is used in some laser vision corrective surgeries and can kill epithelial cells.

Lasek is a type of laser vision correction that should not be confused with Lasik. Lasek differs from Lasik in that, instead of using a microkeratome to cut the flap at the front of the eye, a very fine blade called a trephine is used. After the flap is cut, an alcohol solution is applied to loosen the edges to allow for an easier flap removal.

A fifth type of laser vision correction is IntraLace Lasik. IntraLace Lasik is a blade-free method of laser vision corrective surgery. With traditional Lasik, a microkeratome is used to create a flap in the cornea, and then a cold beam laser is used to reshape the cornea to repair vision. With InraLace Lasik, two lasers are used to complete the procedure. A second laser is used to create the flap, instead of using a blade. The same type of laser used with traditional Lasik is then used to reshape the cornea.

There are several types of laser vision correction available today, with some new techniques that are still considered to be experimental. Different surgeons prefer some methods over others, and the best technique for the individual patient should be considered. Each type of laser vision correction has its own benefits and risks involved so care should be taken to choose the best one for a specific condition. Concerns and questions should be fully addressed during pre-surgical counseling to ensure the best decision is made.

6 Things Not To Say To Someone With Cancer

You have no way of knowing if it will be or not, says Knajdl, and such a statement ends up sounding like an empty platitude -- plus you establish a sense of mistrust. "It doesn't make the person feel better," says Knajdl, "because he knows it's not true and it just makes him feel dismissed and not heard."

What to say instead: What the person really wants to hear is that you're going to be there for him through the good times and the bad, and that he's not going to go through cancer treatment alone. There will be days when it does feel like everything's going to be all right, and you'll be there to celebrate that with him, but there will be days when discouraging test results come in or he's in pain -- and you'll be there for that, too. "When you talk to patients, their two big fears are that they won't make it through treatment, and that they'll be alone and in pain," says Knajdl. "Just keep telling the person that you'll be there with him and you'll make it through this together."

This is almost an automatic response for many of us when someone is sad or upset. We say it out of the best of intentions, to demonstrate our compassion, our sympathy, our sense of having been there. The problem is, it has the unintended effect of shutting the other person down, says Knajdl. "When you say, 'I know how you feel,' the unspoken second part of the thought is, 'and therefore you don't have to go into any detail about it,'" Knajdl says. "It increases the patient's sense of isolation, because it's like telling him you don't want him to talk about it."

Unless you've been treated for the same type of cancer and have undergone exactly the same treatment, you really don't know how the person feels. "We have no idea what it's like, and it's upsetting to the patient when we act like we do," says Knajdl.

What to say instead: A better approach, according to Knajdl, is to ask something like, "How are your mood and spirits holding up through this?" If the person you're concerned about is anxious or sad, this gives him a chance to tell you how he feels, which can be a big relief to someone who's trying to pretend he's doing just fine. And even if he answers that he's holding up pretty well, he'll still feel better that you asked.

Cancer patients hear endless variations on this "mind over body" theme. There are going to be days when a patient doesn't feel positive at all, and you certainly don't want him worrying that he's sabotaging his own chances of recovery. And what if he has a stressful job, or is a type A personality who reacts easily to stress -- do you want him feeling guilty or worrying that his high-strung personality or tendency toward anxiety either "caused" or will worsen his cancer?

Unfortunately, an awful lot of the literature conveys, in one way or another, the underlying message to cancer patients that they may have "caused" cancer through stress, worry, or a negative attitude, and that they could heal the cancer if they'd only develop a mellow outlook or sunny disposition. All that really happens is that they feel even more anxious about trying not to be anxious, or they feel guilty for not feeling happy. Even some visualization techniques can make cancer patients feel a sense of defeat, Knajdl says, if the focus is on healing but healing doesn't seem to be happening.

What to say instead: Suggest specific solutions. When your loved one is tense or anxious, ask him to identify what's stressing him out and how you can help him put the worries to rest. In other words, instead of saying "relax," help him relax by eradicating the stress trigger. For example, try refocusing any visualization he's doing toward a concrete and reasonably accessible goal, such as comfort or sleep. Instead of trying to visualize eradicating a tumor, suggest that he visualize falling into a deep sleep in a quiet, safe, pleasant place. Sometimes you can help eradicate stress with a concrete act of assistance. Knajdl remembers one patient who was very anxious in the hospital because he felt he hadn't put his financial house in order. His son brought all the documents to the hospital, and they took care of them one by one.

In our rush to be supportive, it's all too easy to fall back on such encouraging and inspirational messages. But they can give cancer patients a deep-seated feeling of failure. "I call this the Lance Armstrong syndrome, this idea that if you have the right fighting spirit you can overcome disease," says Knajdl. "I admire Armstrong and he's done great things to publicize cancer, but this idea that people can triumph over cancer with will power and an upbeat attitude is just crazy. There are all sorts of factors that contribute to why some people recover and some don't. The truth is, some people just get lucky."

This problem tends to come up with cancer survivors in particular, who may believe very deeply that their attitude, philosophy, spiritual focus, or belief in healing helped them survive. And sometimes hearing such stories can make other patients feel hopeful and optimistic. But if things aren't going well -- if a scary test result has just come in, if chemo's side effects are almost unbearable, if your loved one is facing the fact that his cancer may not be curable -- then hearing others' tales of triumph may not be helpful.

What to say instead: The best way to help your loved one feel positive and hopeful is to just keep reassuring him that you're in this together, and that you'll keep caring for him and supporting him and making him as comfortable as possible during his treatment.

Your loved one is scared, angry, or in tears, and you want him to feel better. But unfortunately, a statement like this makes it sound as if you want him to put his feelings, which are natural and unavoidable, under wraps. "In this situation, it's okay to get worked up, and it's okay to vent," says Knajdl. "We have this fear of feelings getting out of control. But sometimes a patient needs opportunities to cry or get angry or get upset, and if you can help him express these feelings and get them out, in the end he'll feel better."

What to say instead: If you don't know what to say, it's okay not to say anything at all, Knajdl says. Just offer the comfort of your presence, a hug, or an arm around the shoulders. Allowing some silence without rushing to fill it gives the person a chance to say what's on his mind in his own time. Perhaps he's afraid of pain, afraid of letting you down, or frustrated by feeling incapacitated by his illness. "One patient surprised his son by saying, 'I feel frustrated lying here in the hospital because I feel like I'm wasting my time,'" Knajdl says. "It turned out he was actually upset that he didn't have his legal affairs in order. The son responded by saying, 'Would you like me to get a lawyer to come in so we can take care of that?' That made his father feel much better."

As a friend or family member, you'll feel thrilled when treatment is finished, but the patient's feelings are likely to be much more mixed. During treatment, he's taking action. That can be empowering because the focus is on a solution, either a cure or progress in pushing back the cancer. When treatment is finished, it can feel like there's nothing more for him to do but wait, and naturally he may feel anxious and uncertain. "Often, people don't feel like celebrating. Instead they think, 'Now what do I do? Just wait for the cancer to come back?'" says Knajdl.

No matter how relieved you are, try to keep it to yourself. "It's really common to say something like, 'Boy, am I glad that's over,' but that implies two things: that the treatment has been a burden on you, and that you want your loved one to be happy about it when maybe he's not feeling happy," Knajdl says.

What to say instead: Give the person a chance to express how he's feeling. Try asking an open-ended question, such as, "How are you feeling now that we're finishing up the chemo?" This way, you allow him to control the response. He might say, "I know we were talking about throwing a party when I finished chemo, but I really don't feel like it." The bottom line is, whatever he's feeling is okay, and your job is to make it clear you're ready to listen.

Guided visualization tapes are available from the Healing Mind (http://www.thehealingmind.org), created by Martin Rossman, MD, one of the pioneers of this mind-body technique.

Prostate Cancer and the Positive Effects of Omega 3 Fish Oil Supplements

Prostate cancer is expected to kill one man out of every thirty five in America. That is about three percent of males will die from this disease.

Omega 3 fish oil supplements have been shown to have a beneficial effect for those who have the disease by increasing their life expectancy beyond previous expectations. These supplements have also been shown to decrease the levels of the disease in groups of men most susceptible to the disease for either genetic or lifestyle reasons.

Factors affecting the possibility of developing prostate cancer are genetic and lifestyle.

Certain groups of men are more prone to the disease because of the genes of their ancestors. This unfortunately is unavoidable. We cannot choose our genes but the statistical probability can be reduced by changing our diet to increase the factors that prevent the development of prostate cancer.

The lifestyle factors that affect the possibility of developing prostate cancer are amongst others overweight and smoking. These factors we can choose to change. We can also increase the possibility of avoiding prostate cancer by changes and improvements to our diet.

Statistical studies and laboratory experiments have shown that increasing the amounts of Omega 3 fatty acids in the diet can reduce the susceptibility to prostrate cancer. These studies have also shown that where the disease has already been diagnosed the life expectancy can be increased. The affected man can live with the disease without further deterioration and in some cases improvement has been noted.

Omega 3 fatty acids are most commonly found in cold water fish such as sardines, salmon and tuna. It has been shown that men who eat two or more portions of fish per week have a better chance of avoiding prostate cancer than men who eat more meat. Men who have already been diagnosed with the cancer can reduce the effects of the disease by increasing their consumption of fish and thus Omega 3 fatty acids.

A convenient way of increasing the intake of Omega 3 fatty acids is Omega 3 fish oil supplements which are usually in the form of capsules. These capsules are manufacture to be free of pollutants and rich in the beneficial Omega 3 fats. They are a low cost convenient supplement for better health.

The effects of prostate cancer can be serious and deadly. The taking of Omega 3 fish oil supplements can ward off this disease in many cases and help fight the disease where it has been diagnosed.

When selecting an Omega 3 fish oil supplement check the packaging for information regarding pollutants such as mercury and the levels of the beneficial components such as DHA and EPA fatty acids. If this information is not provided on the packaging look for a product that provides this information.

Your health and your prostate deserve the best Omega 3 fish oil supplement available.

Laser Lipolysis

Looking good makes you feel good and in a society where physical appearance plays a big role, medical advances give solutions to almost all of the physical dilemmas a lot of us face. One of the most popular advances is the Laser Lipolysis. This procedure is ideal for those close to ideal weight who are battling with those last few stubborn inches. Best for those who would not want to undergo actual surgery but would want to get almost the same results as the conventional liposuction.
Laser Lipo is a new treatment for the removal of excess fatty tissues found in areas that normally resist yielding to diet and exercise. In this procedure, the fatty cells in a certain area are heated with a laser which causes the cells to break down and seals minor blood vessels to reduce bruising of the area.

The procedure is ideal for those close to ideal weight who are battling with those last few stubborn inches to lose. The heat introduced into the targeted area stimulates collagen production to give a smooth and sculptured effect.

If you are healthy and not excessively overweight, or of average weight but have stubborn fat areas, then this treatment is just right for you! On the other hand, if you have some health concerns, you still can undergo laser lipolysis, but with special precautions. The severity of the pain depends on one's threshold but remember, anesthetics are applied during the treatment; you are not going to feel any pain. But just like any other medical procedure, side effects are possible. You may feel some discomfort and swelling but these will normally disappear in shorter periods compared to other forms of liposuction.

Originally, Laser Lipo was used for skin regeneration but was later discovered to combat stubborn fat by changing calibrations of the laser. From then on, Laser Lipo has been used as a complementary and replacement therapy for the conventional liposuction procedure. This generally helps sufferers of unwanted fat effectively eliminate cellulite that cannot be cleared out by diet and exercise alone.

Not only is this treatment simple, quick and easy, it is also safe, yields positive results confirmed by scientific studies, effective, and is within your means. It requires minimum recovery time and patients get to go back to their normal activities right away.

Lose That Annoying Belly Now

The fats in your tummy may be referred to as love handles, flab fat or pot belly. Fats like these are the stubborn type that can decrease the confidence of the citizen who possesses them. A person should understand that getting rid of the belly fat is not only for boosting confidence but for having a great healthiness as well. Fats may scatter all through different parts of the body that may cause health damages like hypertension, cancer and diabetes. You do not want to hear this but there is no quick fix when it comes to getting rid of the fats in that belly. There are a lot of commercials about cutting belly fat. My goal in writing this is to hand you helpful information on the variables that cause the body to gain unhealthy fat and how to get rid of abdominal fat effectively without the complicated stuffs. Before anything else, let me make it clear to you that I am not giving you an overnight fix. To acquire a slim belly is to be consistent at working and do the suggestions in this piece. I am also encouraging you to look at other references that talk about fitness and health so you can get a hold of a lot of suggestions on how to get over this concern.
Let me make it clear to you that possessing stomach fat exposes your body to health issues. The main explanation for it is carrying a fat stomach is most of the time associated to health issues like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. One of the reasons for this is that these excess fats are positioned in the farthest area of the skin that is hard to get a hold of. These unpleasant fats make hormones and other substances that can cause bad effect on your health like unhealthy amplification of insulin level in your body. There are vastly evident statistical information expressing that the people who get plenty of health problems like hypertension and cardiovascular issues are those who are currently obese or overweight. And then when events come to becoming pleasant, we all understand that citizens are fond of seeing sexy people and those sexy people do not have tummy fat.

The next thing you have to know is the effect of exercising or working out in your body. It is believed that working out can help burn stomach fats. But certain exercises are only designed for calorie burning. Executing plenty of leg raises and abdominal crunches may not help you get rid of that belly fat. It will only expand the size of your abdomen. Stomach muscles should be toughen up so they will be able to improve their size and shape but they also expand the visceral fat in the belly which will make it seem to be bigger. Therefore, do an workout routine that fits your present physical fitness. There are belly fat decreasing programs like Pilates and you should try them out for yourself and see if you can get your preferred results. If you are overweight, you might wish to put your attention on executing cardiovascular exercises.

Aside from exercise, you have to also work on your food consumption. If you will not cut the quantity of calories that you take then it will be impossible for you to acquire a fit body that you desire to have. You also need to assure that your body acquires the nutrients that it requires to have so that you can develop a active metabolism and energy to enjoy and execute the tasks that you do on a daily basis. A healthy diet includes complex carbohydrates, lean protein and fresh vegetables that can help you burn that belly fat. Eat nutritious foods and live a healthy lifestyle. When you summarize everything here, it all falls down to having a healthy life. It does not have to be outrageous. Just eat right and workout habitually.

The Glorious Age of Laser Eye Surgery

If you are a long time sufferer from an eye condition - whether you are short-sighted, long-sighted or astigmatic - you will be pleased to know there is now a safe and permanent solution to treating these conditions - laser eye surgery.

Laser eye surgery can transform your life. The procedure can significantly reduce the hassles of having to wear glasses or contact lenses and the costs associated with both.

Types of Laser Eye Surgery
There are two types of laser eye surgery: LASIK (the most common) and PRK/LASEK. Both of these forms of surgery use the same extremely precise laser to reshape the cornea.

The reshaping of the cornea is the key to correcting vision, because the shape of the cornea determines the way light enters your eye. If your cornea is more curved than it should be, it refracts the light so that it focuses just in front of the cornea. This is known as short-sightedness (myopia). In the cases where the cornea is flatter than it should be, the light converges just behind the cornea, causing long-sightedness (hyperopia). Both of these conditions are treatable with laser eye surgery. Laser eye surgery can also be used to treat very high prescriptions and the effects of ageing eyes (presbyopia). Let's look in detail at these treatable eye conditions to find out more about the ways laser eye surgery could really change your life.

A Breakdown of Eye Conditions Treatable by Laser Eye Surgery
Presbyopia: Round about the time when we reach the age of 40, our eyesight begins to deteriorate. The lens of the eye begins to stiffen while the muscles that allow you to change your focus from close to near become weaker. This naturally ageing eye condition is called presbyopia (literally meaning "old eye") - this is the dreaded moment when most consider bifocal reading glasses or contact lenses. However, this condition can be treated with a laser eye treatment known as Laser Blended Vision.

Short-sightedness: Also known as myopia, this is an eye condition where the eyeball is slightly longer and rounder than it should be. As a result, the light that enters your eye converges just in front of the retina, creating a blurred, out of focus image at a distance. There are various forms of myopia, with the most common being physiological myopia, pathological myopia and acquired myopia. For patients with this condition, myopia contact lenses or glasses were the preferred method of treatment for many years. Fortunately, myopia is also an ideal condition for laser eye surgery treatment.

Long-sightedness: Also known as hyperopia, this eye condition affects near vision first and, later in life, both distance and near vision. Often, if you're long-sighted, you can focus on near objects with a conscious effort, which tends to cause headaches. Long-sightedness is relatively common, affecting about one in four people. Usually, it's an inherited condition and in fact, nearly all babies start life hyperopic - their hyperopia tends to reduce as they get older. Those whose hyperopia remains and develops, will probably be wearing glasses or contact lenses by their mid-twenties - or at least considering it. Long-sightedness can be successfully and permanently treated with LASIK or PRK/LASEK surgery.

Astigmatism: An astigmatic cornea is shaped more like a rugby ball than the normal sphere. Light enters at different angles through this cone, creating two points of focus and therefore a blurred image. This is what causes classic astigmatism symptoms such as blurred small print, difficulty reading, inability to see both near and far without squinting, constant headaches and fatigue. Although treating astigmatism is more complex than standard myopia or hyperopia, virtually all astigmatism symptoms are treatable by laser eye surgery using the right technology.

What to Consider Before Having Laser Eye Surgery
Your eyesight is one of your most precious gifts so you owe it to yourself to check every option thoroughly before making a decision. Every eye is unique and that's why your laser eye surgery treatment should be tailored exactly to your eye's specific needs. Before the procedure, your laser eye surgeon should calibrate the laser according to a personal treatment plan, based on a rigorous and detailed screening process and a customised set of treatment profiles programmed just for you.

Contact lenses for personalized needs

People may need customized contact lenses if they have special eyes or high astigmatism, or they just need additional comfort and particular clear vision. Both RGPs and soft lenses are available for people's personalized needs.
RGPs are commonly acknowledged that they provide clearer vision than soft lenses, especially for astigmatism. However, most of the traditional RGPs have a slight gap between the lens edge and the eye surface, in order to allow more oxygen in tears during blinking. It is still this special design which may make people uncomfortable, especially for those with irregular eye surface shapes. In this case, customized RGPs are designed to tackle this dilemma, which have different measurements and lens designs.

For conventional RGPs, an instrument called keratometer is used to measure the cornea's curvature. And the curvature of conventional RGPs has three elements: the curve of the steepest meridian, the curve of the flattest meridian and the orientation of the flattest meridian. These measurements help doctors or manufacturers determine the curves of RGPs' back surface. Conventional RGPs always have a central curve and two periphery flatter curves.

Custom RGPs require more complex eye measurements and lens designs. Unlike conventional RGPs, they need the eye's several thousand points' curvatures data obtained by a corneal topographer. All these curves are used to form multi-curved lenses, which conform more closely to cornea surface and create smoother point-to-point curvature changes. These measurements and lens designs provide more comfortable fitting for special eyes and also permit more oxygen to directly reach the eyes.

Custom contact lenses offer a change for everyone who has been disappointed by traditional RGPs. Custom RGPs are particularly useful for people with keratoconus and irregular corneal curvature, caused by eye injuries, failed LASIK or just born with that. Another type of custom RGPs are multifocal RGPs, which are created for presbyopia. In conclusion, custom RGPs provide a more effective way to correct myopia and astigmatism.

Soft contacts are also available in custom types, even if they are not as competitive as custom RGPs. But custom soft contacts do offer a better solution for high level astigmatism than conventional toric contacts, which are effective only for astigmatism below 2.5 diopters. Custom toric lenses offer higher powers as well as slighter increments.

Custom contact lenses may be your choice once you have failed in fitting some conventional contacts or you just want to make a change. Requiring additional time and skills, custom contacts cost about two times more than common contact lenses. You may contact your eye doctor for detailed information.

Effective weight loss tips you can use today

Do you want to lose a few pounds? Have you tried dieting before, only to fail and just feel disappointed? I want to share a few tips with you that work for losing weight successfully. These tips don't require a huge commitment level, and are designed to help you gradually lose weight so you won't feel overwhelmed like with most traditional diets.
One thing to first realize is that losing weight must involve changing your eating habits, and sticking with it long enough to shed those unwanted pounds. Another important aspect of losing weight is setting a reasonable weight loss goal for yourself to help you stay motivated.

Once you have a goal in mind and a reasonable timeline in place, start weighing yourself daily. That's right, step on that scale once every day (preferably at the same time) and keep track of your daily weight. If you want to have accurate measurement results, weigh yourself first thing every morning before eating. You shouldn't be concerned with any day to day fluctuations, because you are looking for consistent weight loss over time. Sure, losing weight might seem slow in the beginning, (it's quite normal to feel that way, actually) but the consistent action the will eventually lead to meeting the weight loss goals you've set for yourself.

Exercise helps with speeding up your metabolism, which means your body will burn more calories quicker. The weight loss goal you've set for yourself will be much more achievable with proper exercise. Many people think losing weight is all about skipping meals, but proper exercise with balanced meals is much more effective. If you feel you must skip calories to lose weight, one idea that works is not to eat anything after dinner. Although for many people, skipping the evening and night time snacks would be a bit of a challenge. It is a good idea though because it gives your body more time until the next meal. Also, if you're hungry when you wake up, you'll be less likely to skip breakfast, the most important meal of the day (both for health AND weight loss).

In conclusion, a healthy balanced diet along with a good exercise routine is the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off. Stick with it and you will have success.

Tips How To Gain Muscle Fast?

Could you teach me how to gain muscle fast? Could you teach me how to pack on an extra ten to fifteen pounds of muscle mass before my next vacation? Could you help me get ready for my first bodybuilding or fitness model competition? Could you help you look like someone who actually lifts weights? Could you help me build a body that turns heads and demands respect?
As a skinny guy muscle building expert, I get approached with these questions about how fast muscle can be built daily in my office. Every single hard gainer I consult with wants to know how to gain muscle fast and how to do safely and effectively.

Hard gainers, please listen up! There is hope for you. I am happy to say that learning how to gain muscle fast is not as hard as some would make you believe but it also not as easy as you might think. But you must be prepared to train smarter and not harder. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about wimping out during your workouts. I am referring to the big picture of training more intelligently.

Here is some of the most popular advice I give to the hard gainer when he wishes to gain muscle fast.

1. Never Perform More Than 10 Reps.

If you are lifting weights beyond 10 reps than you are emphasizing your slow-twitch muscle fibers which have the smallest opportunity for muscle growth. You are a hard gainer and you need recruit the maximal amount of muscle fibers in every set. Always choose your weights knowing that a 11th rep is forbidden and trespassing into 'skinny land.'

If you really want to gain muscle fast than get your mind into heavy lifting mode. Every single set and every single exercise. Keep the weights heavy and never more than 10 reps. Approach every workout knowing that you are going to be venturing into new territory and waging war on your skinny genetics. I recommend these workouts with a workout partner so you can eliminate any safetey issues, not slack off and push your limits every inch of the way.

2. Reduce Your Workout Time

Perform more work in less time and you have increased your work capacity. Work refers to the number of sets, reps and poundage within your workout. Who is fitter? The guy who can do 4 sets of 185 pounds bench press with 30 second rest or the guy who can do 4 sets of 185 pound bench press with 90 second rest? The one who can do the same amout of work in less time. Guess who is more muscular? The one who has a higher work capacity.

Next time you enter the gym, try to complete your current workout in less time. Take shorter rests. Move from one exercise to the next much quicker. Don't be surprised if you feel out of shape! This is one of the easiest tips you can take away to increase your muscle density and take your fitness to a new level. Be prepared to humble yourself and get out of your comfort zone.

3. Do Only One Exercise Per Muscle Group

Only one? Yes, only one, unless you want to buy into the notion that you must mutilate a muscle for over an hour to get any growth out of it. Consider this typical day in the gym. Today is your chest day. Your first exercise is bench press. You perform your first set with 185 lbs, second set with 205 lbs, third set with 225 lbs and fourth set with 245 lbs.

Assuming this is your max weight for the desired number of reps, is it not safe to say that you have used the maximal number of muscle fibers? Your goal is to simple spark your muscles into growth. Not exhaust them to death. Once they experience a unknown assalut (stimulus), your body will be forced to adapt and create new muscle to prevent future assaults! Therefore, your take home lesson is this: Once you have out performed your last workout, it is time to move onto the next exercise.

4. Do No More Than 3-5 Sets Per Muscle Group

I question a hard gainers workout intensity if they must do more than 3-5 sets per muscle group. Now if you are using anabolic steroids or have muscle friendly genes than you can safely dismiss this advice. Remember, learning how to gain muscle fast for the hard gainer requires following a new set of rules.

Consider the first 1-2 sets at 85% maximal effort. The third set at 95% maximal effort and the fourth (and sometimes fifth) set at 100% maximal effort. It is only this last all out set that contributes to the greatest muscle growth. Anything over and above this last go till you blow set simply exhausts the muscle beyond reason and delays your recovery ability to hit the muscle again. It is this last set that you should perform at least 1-2 extra reps or 5-10 extra pounds than last workout. Mission accomplished. You have sparked your muscles into growth. Time to move on.

5. Increase Your Strength 5% Every Two Weeks

One of the biggest mistakes I see hard gainers make in the gym is not track there progress. They return week-after-week to simply reherse the same workouts with the absense of progress. How do you expect to gain muscle fast if you continue to lift the same weights each workout? Your body is designed to tolerate stress. Assault it and let it get bigger. Assault it and let it get bigger. It's a simple concept.

So your take home message is to aim for a minimum of 5% strength increase every two weeks. You might progress a little quicker with larger muscle groups like back and legs versus smaller muscles like biceps and triceps. Just think, in six months from now, you will be over twice as strong as you are now! I would actually recommend writing down your strength goals for six months from now and than work backwards. If you are currently dead lifting 135 lbs, aim to be deadlifting 270 lbs over the next few months!

Conclusion

I know these five tips were not your typical Muscle and Fitness 101 advice and not your typical generic bodybuilding advice. I learned a long time ago to question everything you read and hear. Learn for yourself by doing and not by talking about it. As a skinny guy once myself, 149 lbs to be exact, I defeated my skinny genetics and learned how to gain muscle fast by not following the herd and training smarter and not harder Will you?

Fun Implementation of a Weight Loss Plan

Plenty of people find it very hard to stick to their diet and lose weight. One factor here is that they consider the weight loss and diet programs boring. Add to that the difficulty in the implementation. Usually they would ask a person to give up the food that they love. The need here is to have a weight loss program that the individuals would love thus making them have a fun experience while losing weight. I am Karan Naidoo and have problems regarding my weight. This began when my parents suddenly decided to become vegetarians. Being 11 years old that time, I decided to try it too. My mother cooked the meals that we eat.

This happened 21 year ago and it was during this time that the food for vegetarians was limited. I missed eating meat and was not impressed on the food given to me. I was constantly hungry and started to munch on snack type foods. Because of this, I slowly gained weight over the years and people seem not to mind. Once people started to notice it, they taunted me at school and oftentimes came home depressed.

Eating was something that comforted me and made me feel better. Just a few years ago, I went out and looked for ways in helping me lose weight quickly. Even though I tried plenty of diets, none of them worked. No diet suited me thus making me lose weight even harder. I am someone who needs enjoyment in something to make me continuously interested. Since I did not enjoy going to school, everyday was a struggle for me.

Lose Weight the Fun Way

On a Saturday night a few years ago, my friend (Dave) and I decided to drink a few beers. We were talking about random things and then I told him about my mission in losing weight and told him that I was unable to find a suitable weight loss program.

Dave told me to try a competitive sport and I agreed. I thought about playing tennis three or four times a week and asked him if he could play with me. He then asked me if I wanted to join his six a side football team that he plays twice a week. I gave it a go.

Even though I was drunk when I came home, I felt pleased. I might have found the best weight loss plan ever. The exercise would be able to bring benefits to my weight, health and fitness. In addition, I can now eat whatever and whenever I want since I am an active person. I wanted to lose the unnecessary fat and was able to do this by engaging in sports. It was no problem for me in reaching my desired weight since I was enjoying doing it.

Today, I continuously play tennis and football as well as other sports. I do this not because I want to lose more weight but because I enjoy it. There is nothing better than to reach your desired weight by having fun losing it.

Mesothelioma-Common Questions and Answers

Mesothelioma is a cancer associated with asbestos exposure. Fortunately, it is very rare compared to other forms of cancer in the general population. Unfortunately, it has a very high mortality rate. In this article, we take a look at some common questions and answers regarding it.
Q: Why have some a difficult name?

As if being diagnosed with cancer isn't bad enough, most people are more than a little frustrated that they can't even pronounce the name of it. "Me..so..thee..lee..ohma" is not a name just conjured from the air. Instead, it gets its name from the part of the body where the cancer tends to manifest - the mesothelium. The mesothelium is a lining found in the chest cavity and abdomen. It surrounds most organs including the heart and lungs. The lining consists of two layers with a lubricant between them. When the heart beats or the lungs take in air, the mesothelium lets them move without damaging one another.

Q: Am I Going To Die?

Well, we all are going to die at some point. I could get hit by a bus tomorrow and so could you. That being said, the first question is whether you have a benign or malignant form of the cancer. The benign version is, of course, not going to lead to fatality. Ah, but what about the malignant form.

A diagnosis of malignant Mesothelioma is often fatal, but not always. Approximately 9 percent of patients survive five years after being diagnosed. The key is to make it through the first 2 years. Most patients die during this period, but those that live longer usually survive.

Q: What Course of Treatment Is There?

The treatment course for Mesothelioma depends entirely on your specific condition. There are different stages of the cancer and each has its own typical treatments. In general, you can expect surgery to remove areas of cancerous growth including potentially a lung. You can also expect this to be combined with very aggressive chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Mesothelioma is also one area where doctors are universally very aggressive. You will want to confer with a Mesothelioma specialist, and can expect them to recommend you participate in clinical trials of potential treatments that have not been approved by the FDA yet.

A Mesothelioma diagnosis was a death sentence 20 years ago. This is no longer the case. If you, a friend or loved one is diagnosed with it, be positive and aggressive in seeking treatment.

Questions To Ask Your Doctor On Your Initial Plastic Surgery Consultation

That first appointment is a crucial time to ask questions but sometimes you get nervous and rattled during the appointment and for the life of yourself can't remember what they are. Think of them ahead, write them down and bring the list with you. Here are some important ones:

- How many procedures of this type have you performed? Often, a plastic surgeon will have areas of specialization, such as facial surgery or liposuction. If you are planning to have a rhinoplasty, you want a surgeon who is quite experienced and adept in working with the face and nose.

- Do you have a collection of "before and after" photos of your own patients to review? This is a great time to discuss what your desired outcome is and to hear your plastic surgeon's opinion on the likelihood of your individual result. It is also a good opportunity to get an idea about this doctor's aesthetic eye and ability.

- How long does this particular surgery take to perform? Can the plastic surgeon explain all the details of the methods used? Ask if they have a piece of literature such as a brochure that you may take home in order to review it with a friend or confidant who is helping to advise you.

- Will this be an outpatient procedure or will an overnight stay be required? What is the location of the surgical suites that the physician plans to use? If the plastic surgeon does not plan to utilize a hospital, ask if he/she has hospital privileges and where.

Having hospital privileges says something about the doctor's reputation and training because most hospitals require a certain level of expertise before allowing the privilege of using their facility.

- What type of anesthetic will be used? There are different types of anesthesia, such a general or twilight sleep with sedation. Ask your doctor to discuss the pros and cons of each.

- What complications might arise and what would be done to alleviate or avoid them? This is a good time to find out about the staff members that will be assisting during the procedure and who to call after hours in case of an emergency.

- What is the cost of the procedure and what financing options are available. Many plastic surgeons today will help their patients connect with an appropriate payment plan or finance company in order to allow them to afford the surgical option that they are choosing to have.

A final step of your homework assignment of physician selection would be to call your local licensing board in order to assure that the doctor of your choice has a blemish free record and a good reputation.
